Chapter Six

With David's help, Tom completed the applications for the master’s program and scholarship, and then waited anxiously for the results. David arranged to have lunch with Phillipe, both to thank him for taking an interest in Tom, and to find out more about the costs that David and Gun might have to help with. Phillipe assured him that the scholarship would cover all the major expenses. The organization was keen to get more people from South and Southeast Asia trained, and had tried to ensure the grants would amply cover the costs. The main additional costs would be the travel expenses to Barcelona, as well as any trips around Europe while he was there.

It seemed to David like this opportunity may well cost them less than if Tom continued his studies in Bangkok, although David was quite willing to contribute more than that to help Tom out. Gun also seemed to be quite impressed when David told him.

“Of course, he still has to get it,” Gun cautioned David.

“True,” David said, nodding in agreement. “But Phillipe seemed to think he had a really good chance. He's got good grades, good scores on his entrance exams and they've never had a Thai in the program. Plus, Phillipe says he gave Tom a really glowing recommendation. Says he's one of the keenest interns they've ever had.”

“You know how to pick them, David,” Gun said, grinning at his sub.

“Might I point out, I found him in your company, Sir.”

“Watch it, sub,” Gun said in a stern voice, although his grin broadened.

David returned the grin. He was trying to provoke Gun, and the Dom probably knew it, but would mete out some kind of exquisite punishment later anyway.
